True North Wins National Award

True North Strategic Communication has taken the gong for Best Investor or Community Relations Campaign at Mumbrella’s annual CommsCon Awards.

The awards, which feature projects from around Australia, are regarded as the most prestigious PR and communication awards in Australia and New Zealand.

“We are so proud of this award,” Managing Director, Elena Madden said.

“Receiving national recognition on the same stage as some of Australia’s biggest PR players is a testament to the dedication and passion of our team.”

The award was won for our work on the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park Media Industry Guidelines for Parks Australia. The Media Industry Guidelines are in place to help photographers, filmmakers, media and the tourism industry work on and use images of the park for commercial purposes while balancing the responsibility of Anangu traditional owners over their land and respect for Tjukurpa (cultural law, knowledge and values).

True North consulted with 18 key stakeholder groups across more than 60 meetings and four workshops to understand stakeholder values and needs to inform the new guidelines. In addition, seven written submissions were received from stakeholders detailing their concerns and ideal outcomes for the guidelines.

“This was a large project which spanned across two years and involved working with a number of groups,” Elena said.

True North took a collaborative approach in working closely with the Parks Australia media team on the ground in the park. Their knowledge, support and flexibility were vital to facilitating this complex project.

Studio B Designs developed the creative concept of the guidelines and designed the accompanying handbook. Floodlight Creative implemented the concepts for design of the guidelines. Both companies captured the brilliance of the park in their wonderful work.

“It was a team effort that led to new guidelines that meet the needs of the media and tourism industries while being acceptable to the land’s traditional owners. We can all be extremely proud of the end product which is due to be released later this year.”
