True North secures role in five-year $472 million Defence project

True North is extremely proud to be working on the Department of Defence’s Larrakeyah Defence Precinct Redevelopment project.

Managing Contractors, Laing O’Rourke, will oversee the $472 million project which will become one of Darwin’s biggest Defence projects.

The five-year job will see much needed upgrades to aging infrastructure on Larrakeyah Barracks, including a new base entry, new NORFORCE facilities and a new office building. The project will also deliver new berthing capabilities to accommodate varying combinations of major surface combatants and submarines, with the largest warship being a Landing Helicopter Dock.

True North will conduct community and stakeholder engagement as well as deliver communication support for the duration of the project. Successful engagement and communication throughout the five years is key to ensuring the works are delivered effectively and in a way that is considerate of the needs of nearby residents and stakeholders.

Earlier this year True North supported the planning phase of the project. Our consultants conducted door-knocks and held residential briefings and facilitated walk-in sessions for the community to learn more about the proposed works and to provide feedback. During the consultation residents were able to ask questions and share their concerns in a constructive way that lead to revised proposals that better suited the needs of the community while also achieving Defence’s goals.

We are pleased to consolidate our Defence-related expertise on this project and add it to the list of major Defence projects that we have and are currently supporting, including:

  • New Air Combat Facilities Project, RAAF Base Tindal
  • PFAS Investigation, RAAF Base Tindal and RAAF Base Darwin
  • RAAF Base Tindal Redevelopment.
