Plans to duplicate Berrimah Road

Berrimah Road is an important link in Darwin’s road network. It connects the Stuart Highway to Darwin Port, the nation’s ‘northern gateway’ for Australasian trade. The road includes a mix of industrial properties, some residential properties, a school and provides access to residential development, Northcrest, which will cater for up to 7500 Territorians.

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL) is planning for the duplication of Berrimah Road, between the Stuart Highway and Tiger Brennan Drive to cater for future growth.

True North was engaged by Tonkin Consulting to lead consultation on the concept design. True North developed a comprehensive consultation strategy to engage with businesses and property owners in the immediate area, key stakeholders and the broader community to seek feedback on the concept.

The consultation ran for six weeks and involved engaging with landowners who may be affected by land acquisition, a doorknock to the most impacted areas and one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders. True North worked with Studio B to develop a fact sheet and stylised map.

Following the consultation process, True North prepared an independent report which will be considered by Tonkin Consulting and DIPL in finalising the concept design.

The second stage of the project is expected to take place in 2020 and will involve presenting the detailed design to stakeholders and the community.
